Our Story

The Northwest Photography Archive, founded in 2002 by John Laursen and the late Terry Toedtemeier, is dedicated to expanding awareness and access to the rich cultural heritage of the Pacific Northwest. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization since 2007, it focuses on restoring and presenting historically significant photographs through curated collections in beautifully designed books. The first volume, 'Wild Beauty: Photographs of the Columbia River Gorge, 1867–1957,' published in 2008, showcases the stunning landscapes and history of the region.

Impact

The Archive has made significant strides in illuminating the cultural heritage of the Pacific Northwest. The acclaimed book 'Wild Beauty' has garnered awards and recognition, while educational programs and exhibitions engage the public in this vital heritage.
