Founded in 1923 by dedicated members of the Chatham Ladies’ Reading Club, the Chatham Historical Society is committed to preserving the rich history and seafaring culture of Chatham. The Society acquired the historic Atwood House, built in 1752, and has significantly expanded its facilities and collections over the years, including a major renovation in 2005 that enhanced accessibility and added new galleries.
